Reflection Prompt: How has technology impacted or changed your classroom assessment and evaluation? Has your data collection methodology changed with technology? If technology has not impacted your assessment and evaluation, what would you like it to change? Discuss technology and your own productivity and professional practice.
Description: In the past three years, the district I currently teach in has shifted from paper assessments to technology based assessments. Previously the paper assessments were created by a small group of students within the district. With the change from state standards to national standards, along with other changes in education, the tests quickly became outdated. The first technology based assessment that our district has implemented is AIMSWEB. This program allows teachers to progress monitor student's in reading and math. We base instruction groups and intervention groups based on the scores. This year we are also implementing MAP testing. This is a national normed test that is given 3 times a school year. MAP testing has immediate results for teachers. Numerous reports and parent letters are available to help track progress.

Impact: By using AIMSWEB and MAP I am able to immediately see the strengths and weaknesses of my students. Before, I had to create my own paper test and spend time grading them before I could decide on interventions. Both AIMSWEB and MAP allow me to focus more time on preparing instruction and intervention for my students, rather than preparing and grading the assessments. I always show my students their individual graphs on AIMSWEB and MAP. I have witnessed improved student motivation when they see how they really are learning and growing, as well as how they need to work a little harder when their graph begins to drop.

Intent: I will continue to use AIMSWEB and MAP to assess and conference with my students. I will continue to use the data I receive from these assessments to plan and conduct my instruction. In the coming week I have parent/teacher conferences. During these conferences I will be sharing with the parents their child's current scores and goals for AIMSWEB and MAP. I will outline for them what these tests measure and how I apply them to teaching their child.
